A Sample of Our Projects
Heritage Redevelopment
Norwich Castle, UK
Subteno provided specialist engineering for the permanent and temporary design of the structural steelwork connections and installation sequencing.

The roof steel was a major challenge, as the arrangement was unstable in the temporary condition and required careful consideration and design to ensure it could be threaded through the existing roof timbers without causing damage to timber or stone structures.

To further constrain the design, the tower crane was limited in both reach and capacity, necessitating splicing of major structural components.
Education Extension
East Norfolk College, UK
Subteno were appointed to provide Civil and Structural Engineering services for the partial demolition of a single storey classroom building and reconstruction of a new two storey steel frame structure.

Additional structural alterations were undertaken throughout the contract to remove load bearing walls and improve the space for various college activities.
Retail Store Redevelopment, UK
A project to remodel an existing store to provide an improved customer experience, increasing the retail area and delivering significant aesthetic enhancements.

Subteno provided civil and structural engineering to facilitate the modifications to the existing structure.
Feature Staircase,
London, UK
The focal point of this project was to create a new staircase and associated floor opening, connecting two levels with a high specification ‘floating’ staircase.

Design challenges stemmed from the 90° turn at the half landing, with no columns or posts below, which introduces significant torsion into the stair. We overcame these challenges with hidden structure, within the body of the staircase and between the lower structural floor and finished raised access floor.
This elegant design was carefully assessed to provide a stiff feeling staircase and to ensure footfall vibration was controlled. As with so much structural engineering, the complexities of this structure are totally hidden within the final form.
Gas Platform Simplification, SNS, UK
This was a simplification project to streamline the operating philosophy of an existing gas platform in the SNS.

Subteno provided structural engineering and 3D modelling services to facilitate new support steel for the new renewables power generation (batteries, photovoltaic panels and wind turbines), a new escape to sea frame and walk to work access gates.

In addition, new pad-eyes were detailed and installed ahead of the future decommissioning heavy lift campaign.
Flare Boom and Helideck Removal, SNS, UK
This was part of a decommissioning project of an existing gas platform in the SNS.

Subteno provided structural engineering services to facilitate the removal of miscellaneous structural elements (flare boom and partial helideck removal).
Commercial Development, Oldham, UK
Subteno were appointed to undertake significant internal structural alterations and external works/drainage design for the redevelopment of a derelict public house.

Originally constructed on poor ground with piled foundations and suspended concrete floors, numerous site investigations were carried out during predevelopment to assist with providing a final solution that gave budget / cost certainty and reduced contractors risks.
Large Distribution
Warehouse, UK
This project was to expand and upgrade an existing distribution warehouse by re-routing conveyer lines and equipment.

Subteno provided structural engineering to facilitate the installation of around 32 tonnes of new support members and connections to the existing structure to enable the extensive new conveyer lines to be installed.

This work was carried out on a fast-track basis to minimise disruption to the 24/7 operations.
Fire Station Training Tower, Various Locations in UK
This is a bespoke emergency responders training tower for working at height in emergency conditions.

Subteno provided structural engineering and drafting services supporting Crofton Engineering Ltd to facilitate the design of the foundations and the superstructure, for multiple locations across the UK.
Modifications to Existing Structure, UK
This project aims to update an existing structure used within the food manufacturing sector on a UK site.

Subteno provided structural engineering services to the fabricator, B&B Engineering Ltd, covering a retrospective analysis of the existing structure, and design of new supports for the equipment.
Mixed Use Development,
Bristol, UK
Demolition of a public house and redevelopment of the land to provide a petrol filling station, retail shop, new public house and beauty salon and first floor offices.

Overhead power lines were to remain present and functional during the construction of the new building, this informed the design and method of construction.
New Portal Frame Energy Centre, Swaffham, UK
Subteno provided structural engineering and drafting services for a new steel superstructure facilitating the construction of a portal frame building.
This was to house equipment for the UK’s first large scale, air and ground source heat pump energy supply to the entire village of Swaffham Prior.
