OUR STORY.

At Subteno, our name describes both what we do and who we are. Derived from the international language Esperanto, subteno means support - an apt word for a company devoted to helping others to achieve perfectly designed, resilient places to work, trade, manufacture, learn and live.

Designing supporting structures and infrastructure whilst at the same time providing support to our clients and project teams, enabling our clients to realise their ambition through the design process and into construction.

This idea of support has guided us from our earliest days.

Subteno's story began in February 2019 when two long‑standing colleagues and friends, Andrew Dye and Matthew Byatt, left their positions in a respected medium‑sized consultancy to forge their own path.

Together they brought more than six decades of combined experience and a shared passion for solving complex engineering challenges with practical, commercially aware solutions.

With support at the heart of what we do, Subteno are committed to the highest level of professional service to our clients and collaborators.

our approach.

Subteno stands for support in every sense of the word.

We support our clients by offering attentive service, honest advice and designs that are both robust and buildable.

We support each project team by working collaboratively with architects, contractors and other specialists to deliver on time and on budget.

And we support our profession by sharing knowledge and championing high standards of safety and quality.

We believe engineering is about more than calculations - it is about understanding our clients’ needs, balancing ambition with practicality and designing structures that enrich lives.

Whether working on a complex brown‑field development, a high‑profile retail site or a state‑of‑the‑art industrial facility, we bring the same passion and commitment to solving problems creatively.
