Project Overview

High Alumina Cement (HAC) concrete was used in precast concrete construction, particularly in the UK from the 1950s to the early 1970s, its use was curtailed due to structural failures caused by a process called   "conversion".

Subteno conducted a structural investigation of the beam and block roof system in the main school building, which contains high alumina cement (HAC).

This included a visual defects survey of the roof components, the proposal of remedial measures for affected blocks, and the identification of a precast concrete beam requiring removal. The beam was subjected to independent full scale concrete testing due to the presence of HAC.
